Studio Visit — Artist L

magical storytelling through ceramic objects

After wandering through a courtyard with falling camellias, we found ceramic maker Luca of Artist L. working from her home-studio bench in KeriKeri. Here, we watched Luca form clay into bowls and trays, and hand paint small gestural scenes onto their surfaces.

Celebrating the harmony of illustration and form, Luca's ceramics feature painted figures, either skiing and climbing, or riding horses and dancing. Each seems to echo the characters found in children's vintage books, charged with a sense of nostalgia and intimacy.
